Why Nurtail

Rescue work is hard enough without the admin.

Nurtail was shaped around how UK rescues actually work — foster-based, stretched, and accountable to animals, adopters and trustees at once.

  • Records in spreadsheets, paper files and inboxes

One record per animal — health, documents, behaviour and history — that follows them from intake to their new home.

  • Fosters out of sight until something goes wrong

Daily logs in three taps, and a welfare flag that reaches your whole team instantly as an urgent task.

  • Adoption decisions made from memory and long forms

Short applications, a match summary that explains itself, and a status tracker adopters can actually follow.

  • No easy answer to “how do you know?”

Every change and approval written to a tamper-evident audit trail — ready for trustees, funders and future licensing.

The platform

From the day they arrive to the day they go home — and after.

Everything a rescue does, in one calm workspace. Everything an owner needs, in their pocket.

A case pipeline you can see at a glance

Intake, triage, evidence, care, ready, match, handover and follow-up — with days-in-stage on every animal, so no one waits unnoticed.

The Safety Passport

Owners switch it on, choose what a finder sees, and share a QR tag. Contact is relayed — never revealed.

Intake in minutes

A five-step intake that scans the microchip first, saves as you go, and opens the case with the right first tasks.

Records vets can rely on

Structured health timelines, shared with a vet only when the owner says so, for as long as they say. Entries are voided, never deleted.

Reports that reach the right rescue

Lost, found, injured or a welfare worry — routed to the verified rescue covering that postcode, with the exact location kept private.

Matching that explains itself

Each application shows which needs the home meets, partly meets or doesn't. A person always decides.

An audit trail you can prove

Every material change and approval becomes an immutable, content-hashed event. Check integrity in one click; export for trustees in another.

One platform, five roles

Everyone around an animal, on the same page.

Each person sees exactly what their role needs — and nothing they shouldn't.

Run your rescue, not your spreadsheets.

Trust & safety

“Verified” means someone checked.

A badge is only worth the process behind it. Here's ours, in full.

  1. Step 1: Evidence submitted

Rescues upload their registration, insurance and safeguarding policy. Care providers add insurance, DBS and any licences.

  2. Step 2: Checked by a person

A member of the Nurtail team opens and checks every document against public registers. Nothing is approved automatically.

  3. Step 3: A recorded decision

Approve, ask for more, or decline — always with a reason the organisation can read, and a permanent record of who decided.

  4. Step 4: Reviewable and revocable

Change your name or registration and you're re-checked. Lapsed insurance or a safeguarding concern can remove the badge.

Six commitments built into the product

Not a policy page — rules the software enforces.

  • We record — vets decide

Nurtail structures health records and flags concerns for professional review. It never diagnoses or advises on treatment.

  • No naming and shaming

Welfare reports are private to the rescue handling them. Posts that name people or share addresses are held for review.

  • Only what's needed

Exact locations stay with the handling rescue; everyone else sees an area. Owners' contact details are never shown to finders.

  • No money on live animals

We never take payment or commission for an animal. Adoption donations go straight to the rescue.

  • Safety before heroics

Every report starts with safety guidance — don't approach, don't confront, and who to call if an animal is in danger.

  • Everything accountable

Material changes and approvals create immutable events. You can check the whole trail hasn't been altered — in one click.

Why Nurtail exists

A world where every animal is known, protected and given the chance of a safe, healthy and loving life.

We're building a safer, healthier and kinder world for animals — by connecting the people, communities, professionals and organisations around them through trusted information, verified care and technology that stays out of the way.

  1. Animals matter.

Every animal deserves safety, care and a loving home.

  2. People can make a difference.

We give individuals, communities and professionals the tools to create positive change.

  3. Trusted information saves lives.

Verified records and transparency lead to better decisions and better outcomes.

  4. Stronger together.

We connect owners, adopters, rescues, professionals and service providers.

Questions

The honest answers.

Anything else? Ask in the form — a real person reads every message.

Is Nurtail available now?

Not yet to everyone. We're running a pilot with a small group of founding rescue partners first. Register your interest and we'll tell you when it opens for you.

What does it cost for a rescue?

Nurtail will be free for small and registered charities. Larger, multi-site operators will have a paid plan, and we'll agree what's fair with our founding partners before any prices are published.

Can I move our existing records across?

Yes. Founding partners get help bringing animals' details and records in, so you don't start from a blank page.

How does Nurtail verify a rescue or a care provider?

A member of our team reviews the evidence — charity registration, insurance, safeguarding policy, DBS and licences where they apply — against public registers. Every decision is recorded with a reason, and a badge can be reviewed or removed if something changes.

Does Nurtail give veterinary advice?

No. Nurtail keeps structured records and can flag an observation as needing professional review, but it never diagnoses or recommends treatment. That's always a vet's decision.

Who can see an animal's records?

Only the people whose role needs them: the rescue caring for the animal, the foster they invite, and a vet only when the owner grants access for a set time. Every access is logged.

What happens to a welfare report I make?

It goes privately to a verified rescue covering that area. It's never published, and we'll never show your details to the person you're concerned about. If an animal is in immediate danger, call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 or the police on 999.

Do you sell animals or take a cut of adoptions?

Never. Nurtail takes no payment or commission for any animal. Adoption donations go straight to the rescue.
